How Do I Access My CRA Account?

Most people have a personal CRA account, though not everyone has online access to their own. Depending on your situation, you may have several CRA accounts that you will need to access.

Sole proprietors may have a business CRA account if they have registered for GST/HST, and corporations will require a business CRA account for their various functions.

Personal

Before you can access your account, you will need to register it through the CRA site, by navigating to the box below on the page and clicking "CRA register."

You will then need to enter your 9-digit Social Insurance Number (SIN), your date of birth, and line 15000 from the most recent of your 2023 or 2022 tax returns. It can be found on page 3 of 8 on your tax return. If you haven't filed your 2023 or 2022 returns, they will need to be filed before you can register for your account.

Once you have entered the information and hit the "Next" button, you will be given options to verify your identity. Choose for the CRA to mail you a security code (you will need to provide your postal code as reported on your tax return). You should receive the code within 5-10 business days.

Next you will need to create a CRA user ID, password, and security questions. You will also need to select a multi-factor authentication method to use every time you sign into your account. We recommend either the SMS passcode or authenticator app options.

Once you receive the security code through the mail, there will be a "Enter your CRA Security Code" button. Once you've done this, you will have full access to your personal account.

Business

To gain access to your business account, please follow these steps:

  1. Have the following ready:

    1. Either a Canadian passport, driver's license,  or provincial/territorial photo ID,

    2. Social Insurance Number,

    3. Date of birth,

    4. Line 15000 of your most recent personal tax return as seen above, and

    5. Your up-to-date address (should be the same as on your CRA account)

  2. Go to the CRA's "Register for the CRA sign-in services" webpage [link]

    1. Under "I want to register for:" select "My Business Account,"

    2. Proceed to step 03 "Choose a sign-in option to register with" and select "Register with a CRA user ID and password."

    3. You may encounter errors with the CRA site and may have to try this several times. If nothing else works you may need to clear your browser cache/cookies.

    4. You will be prompted to enter your SIN, date of birth, and line 15000 from your most recent tax return of the last two years. If you haven't filed for the last two tax years, please see the above "Personal" section.

    5. Next you will be prompted to choose between having a code mailed to you, or proceeding through Interac® verification. We recommend Interac® for speed.

    6. Over the next few steps you will be sent a text from Interac® requesting an upload of the front and back of your ID, as well as a photo of you.

    7. Once your identity has been verified, you will be prompted to add your Business Number to your newly registered Business Account as the final step.

You can also call the CRA at +1 (800) 959-5525, and dial "1" twice when prompted. The agent should be able to assist you in completing this process.

Once you have access, if Rozek & Associates will be acting as your representative to the CRA, you will need to authorize us to give us access to your account as well. You must sign into your business account and go to the "Profile" page, then navigate to the "Authorized representative(s)" section and either

  1. accept our authorization request if one has been sent; or

  2. manually add us as a representative by clicking the "+," entering our Business Number (757 938 485), and giving us level 2 access with no expiration date.
